Hi, my name is Ashley. I’m 25, female, and I currently live in the Washington DC area with my boyfriend, Marques, and our super-cat, Waylon. I grew up in Charleston, W.Va., and studied journalism and graphic design at Marshall University. Oh my gosh, yes, that school in the movie with the football.
I’m a news designer by trade, though lately I’ve been doing more web design. I work for a congressional newspaper and thus, am always the first person my friends go for political information. As of today, I’m voting for Obama. It’s because he reminds me of Will Smith. No, I’m just kidding.
I talk a lot about design and it drives people crazy. Except for those who enjoy it. I dye my hair black. I wear glasses. I don’t like sports which is a problem because my boyfriend would watch SportsCenter like it’s his job. My boyfriend has aspirations to become a meteorologist (science, not television). I hope this happens because I have a severe obsession with the Weather Channel.
I love Godzilla, global disaster/apocalyptic movies, Dr. Pepper, Hello Kitty, Macs, and things that smell like lemons. Lately, my life has been taken over by baking, knitting and reading. It is quite possible that I am secretly somebody’s grandmother.
You can contact me here: watchoutformastodons (at) gmail (dot) com. Presents both in physical and verbal form are always appreciated.
About this website:
I’ve kept a weblog since December 2000 under the name pretty ashley. This domain was first bought for me by my biggest fan, Rachel, in 2002. In 2006, during a routine WordPress update gone haywire, I lost my entire archive. I have since learned my lesson. Kind of.
I have no discernible structure for this site. This is not a design blog or a cooking blog or a cat-parenting blog. This is just my life and things I like and what I’m doing and things I want to remember. At this point in time, I am not accepting any sort of advertising or product sponsorship, but I appreciate the e-mails. If, however, you want to send me some chocolate or Hot Pockets or ice cream, I’m down with that.
Graphics are made by me. I use the K2 theme, and it really does a wonderful job. I’ve been a WordPress user since 2004 and am thankful everyday that they exist. My headers are based on whatever Pantone colors I find beautiful at that particular time. I note the Pantone color at the bottom right-hand corner so you can look it up in a swatch book… if you have one of those.
I have done freelance design work in the past and while I am not actively seeking any freelance work right now, you might be able to tempt me if your project is particularly juicy. You also have the added bonus of paying me in seasons of The Wire.
